I just finished your book In The Empire of Genghis Khan. I turned the last page and was disappointed to find the story was over. What an incredible journey through such an inticing landscape. Thank you for sharing your experience. I was completely engaged.
Just read your piece in the Australian today (saturday 29 Nov) titled ‘A rebirth in Rome’ Stunning prose! Now off to search out your books. “Che bella”
I read your Frontiers of Heaven with enjoyment while travelling recently in Xinjiang. I have a question about the rifle you mention was presented to the Mir of Hunza by Curzon in 1903.You have called it a Smith & Wesson, but as far as l know S&W began making rifles much later. Did you mean a Winchester?
Just read the first paragraph of your article in Cond Nast traveler. The way you wrote about the empress riding her donkey brought tears to my eyes đź’•. Beautiful
Stanley, thank you for your story on and about Baracoa. It to is my favorite place in Cuba. Just over a year ago, I left that small town after 6 days. I didn’t want to leave. The people, the music, the food, the artists, the hiking and beaches. The barbershop for a haircut one day, a shave another and especially the peoples stories. Another memory was going to the baseball stadium to work out with the people. Everything about Baracoa puts you in a place where you just feel good.

Stanley, I loved your article “the great beauty” in Condé Nast Traveler. It read like epic poetry. And although my Italian husband and I do not have children, your memories of Rome reminded me of the times that we have walked in your steps, inhaling the sights, sounds and aromas of that magical city. Thank you for sharing.
